CUE-SAM STUDY

The CUE-SAM study aims to examine craving and emotional responses following
exposure to alcohol and cannabis related cues among individuals with a trauma history.
The use of both substances is common, but little has been done to examine the
relationship between trauma and both alcohol and cannabis. Furthermore, we don’t
know if viewing combined alcohol and cannabis images can bring out a craving to use
each substance. Our team is conducting a study based at York University to see how
responses to alcohol and cannabis cues may differ and to understand how severity of
trauma related distress can impact responses. We also hope to understand the role
these responses might play in the relationship between trauma-related distress and
alcohol and cannabis use behaviour.
