MEDCAN STUDY
Disentangling medicinal and recreational cannabis use among young adults

The MEDCAN Study aims to better understand both medicinal and recreational motivations for cannabis use among young adults in Canada. Cannabis use is common among young adults, especially since it was legalized in Canada, and many young people are using cannabis for recreational reasons but also to manage symptoms they are experiencing. However, we currently know very little about medicinal cannabis use behaviour among young adults, and whether this looks different than cannabis use for non-medicinal or recreational reasons. Our team is conducting a detailed assessment of medicinal and recreational cannabis use among young adults across Canada between the ages of 19-29 using a smartphone app. This study is funded by a grant from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
