The BAC Lab recently completed a study that used a smartphone app to better understand medicinal and non medicinal motivations for cannabis use among people living with HIV. This was the first study to conduct a detailed within-person analysis of the distinctions between medicinal and nonmedicinal cannabis use behaviors among people who use cannabis for both medicinal and non-medicinal reasons. The findings will inform future research on the unique context of medicinal cannabis use among people living with HIV, and will eventually lead to an improved understanding of medicinal cannabis use behaviour among healthcare providers so they can better support people living with HIV.
The initial results of the study were recently presented at the 2022 meeting of the Research Society on Marijuana. The main findings of the study are currently undergoing peer review - check back soon for publication updates.
